On the 28th of May the Irish Presidency of the Council of the EU, the European Parliament and the European External Action Service will host a conference at the European Parliament on how to strengthen the mediation capacity of the EU.
The promotion of peace and the prevention of conflict are core aims of the European Union which were recognised by the 2012 Nobel Peace Prize. Mediation is one of the most effective tools to help prevent conflict. This high level conference will bring together policy makers and mediation practitioners from the EU, the United Nations and civil society. Tánaiste and Foreign Minister Eamon Gilmore, Swedish Foreign Minister Carl Bildt and Pierre Vimont, Executive Secretary General of the EEAS will make keynote speeches at the event.
